The American Dream

Any American, in today's modern society, has at the very least heard the phrase "the American Dream". But, what exactly is the American Dream? Too many people today think that the American Dream is about having things. Having a nice house! Having a nice car! Having a nice job! Having a nice family! This goes along with the current mentality of Americans, they want all the finer things in life, but refuse to put in the work to get them. The Occupy Wall St. movement clearly shows this. These protesters didn't hate wealth, they hated that they didn't have it and someone else did. Rather than go out and attain wealth for themselves, these people (along with liberal, political leaders) want to take the wealth from those who have earned it and give it to those who haven't. This is called redistribution of wealth. However, this was never the American Dream. The American Dream wasn't about becoming wealthy, or having nice things; the American Dream was about making. Making yourself a better person! Making your family and their lives better! Making your community and nation better! Making the world better! People came to America, not because there was no social class, but because any one, with enough hard work and determination, could move up to a higher class. America wasn't equal in that everyone has the same amount of wealth; America gives everyone equal opportunities to make something of themselves. You don't go too college to make money, you go to college to better yourself. I, like so many other American youth, went to college and choose a major that would simply make lots of money. However, I have now learned that college is about growing intellectually and professionally. In May of next year, I will become the first person in my family to graduate from college. I do this to better my self and y family, not to earn money. One day, I will be well off fiscally, but that is not my goal, it will be a by product of my hard work and determination to improve myself.
That is the American Dream!

Miami Marlins

I have lost all faith in the Miami Marlins management after the latest development. The Marlins looked like they were going to try to actually compete with MLB powerhouses. They brought in a manager that knows how to win the big games, they brought in big name players and even went after the biggest fish in the free agent pond last off-season in Albert Pujols, and they even built another modern sports palace. What happened? They dumped their long time star, Hanley Ramirez and some young potential to the LA Dodgers. Well, I thought that was fine, they were moving on from their past, which hasn't won, and moving towards a new future. Then the season ended as disappointing as the last and they fired first year manager Ozzie Guillen; and then hired a nobody to replace him. Now they are dumping most of the talent they brought in over the previous off-season. The Miami Marlins are going to continue to struggle to fill seats in that beautiful new stadium if they don't develpoe some consistancy. That needs to start with a whole new management team. This tteams method of find young, unknown, and un proven players to build up until they develop their skills and leave for bigger contracts else where is destroying the team. They could have won with Ozzie and could have won with ose Reyes and the others as well. But instead, they are going to fill that roster with no bodies and expect fans to pour in. It will not happen.

If I were put in charge of the Marlins today, I would try to sure up my fan base by immediatly going after big name talent to remind my fans we want to compete. Plus, I would be offering no trade clauses to several of them. Number one, I would go after Josh Hamilton, followed by Kyle Lohse. Edwin Jackson could also help the teams bull pen. BJ Upton would be another target. Hamilton and Upton would both recieve no-trade options while the rest of the roster's contracts would be reviewed and a list of who needs to be restructured and who needs to be dumped would be made. My number one drop would be Carlos Lee, his contract is too big to make the moves necessary to get this team on track. This would be my plan, but remember the Marlins management gets paid the big bucks to lead this team to another championship.

WBC Sports 9

With my school's winter basketball season just starting I should update you about the teams progress through their first few games. The men of course won their first game but lost their next. They now have a record of 2-1. The Lady Eagles basketball team now sits at 3-1 after two dominating performances last night and tonight. They defeated Crowley's Ridge College 104-64 last night and Mid-Continent 79-47 tonight. I look forward to bringing you more as the season progresses.

WBC Sports Winter Season

Well, the WBC Soccer and Volleyball seasons are officially over. With our Volleyball girls losing the first round of the conference tournament in what was a hard fought win for Park University. However, with the closing of the fall season, it's time for Basketball here at WBC. The Ladies and Men's Basketball teams both opened their seasons with wins. The men's team won their first two games by almost 30 points in each. While the women opened with a 30 point win as well, the men and women both lost this past week too Blue Mountain College. I do look forward to bringing this new season too you as the Eagle's men, under second year head coach Josh Austin look to rebound from last season's weak performance. Also as the Lady Eagles, under Coach Carol Halford (entering 29th season as coach), tries to lead the Eagles to a conference championship.
